Getting Started with Health & Life Insurance

Everything in life is unexpected – you aren’t given any guarantees about what you’ll be doing tomorrow, where you’ll go, or what news you’ll get. While this isn’t meant to be alarming or frighten you, one thing you need to know about is the benefit and purpose of life and health insurance. You may not think you need it today, but it will be a small price to pay if you need it tomorrow. Because I know the value that is involved in both life insurance and health insurance, I want to break down the two and help you understand them as well.

Life Insurance

Life insurance can vary depending on the policy that you set up, but the benefit is that if something were to happen to you, your beneficiary can file a claim with the insurance company by submitting a death certificate, and can then receive compensation to help with expenses that come up afterward – whether expected or unexpected. You can name your spouse, your child, another family member, or a friend as your beneficiary, but keep in mind that if you name your child who is not of majority age a beneficiary then a custodian of the policy will need to be involved. If you don’t name a custodian, the court can appoint someone.

What Determines Your Rate?

There are several factors that will determine your premium rate, from gender to the results from your medical exam and lab work, your marital status, location, and even your lifestyle (smoker vs. non-smoker, alcohol consumption, risky hobbies and more.)

Why do you need life insurance?

There are so many things that will need to be taken care of after you pass, and your loved ones will be responsible for settling your affairs – that can even include your debts. Provide your family some comfort by leaving them something to help take care of burial and final expenses, to replace your income, or to even pay off a mortgage. The list could go on as to what life insurance can provide for and help your loved ones with. If you’re interested in learning more about it, I would love to set up a time to talk with you and explore your options.

Health Insurance

Health insurance can seem like a touchy topic to some, but that doesn’t change the fact that it can be valuable to have, and costly to ignore. Saving money may be your top priority when looking at your budget and your income – but cutting out health insurance may not be the right choice.

While health insurance can seem expensive, do you want to know what’s really expensive? Having complications come up with a pregnancy and having to pay an astronomical amount out of pocket. Having your elderly parent fall and incur hospital bills that they can’t cover. As much as we don’t want to think about it, even getting a call from your doctor informing you that you have cancer and will entail a long road to recovery – a road that is covered in hospital bills you probably can’t even fathom. You aren’t expecting these types of things to happen, but if they did, wouldn’t you rather take a portion of the stress off by helping cover some of the expenses with health insurance? Being uninsured doesn’t just affect you – it is a ripple effect that impacts your loved ones’ lives just as much as yours.

Health insurance doesn’t just help with unexpected circumstances, though, it also assists with routine health appointments, prescriptions, and more. Are you covered? I would be glad to sit down and talk with you about the options that are available to you.
